Bespoke

Bespoke

Bespoke history at Stewart Christie & Co. tailoring team measuring a customer

The history of bespoke

Bespoke derives from "to bespeak", which from days gone by referred to cloth rather than an actual garment. There has been a certain "flexibility" in recent years in the usage of the term, but strictly speaking a bespoke garment is one that is made for an individual by an individual. Bespoke is the pinnacle of tailoring; crafted to the customer's own specifications with regard to fit, cloth and detailing. Bespoke tailoring involves a close collaboration between the customer and the tailor that is going to cut the suit to understand and realise all what is required. At Stewart Christie & Co. our team are experts in bespoke tailoring.
