 From Weaver to Wearer

From design to garment, we are proud to announce our new partnership with renowned textile designer, Araminta Campbell.

Araminta Campbell’s Edinburgh based design and handweave studio has been creating exquisite designs, and fine textiles, for the great and the good for a number of years. Her design skill, eye for colour and dedication to the art of textiles have placed her as one of the front runners in innovation and style when it comes textile design and production

As customer centric brands, we are always looking at ways we can improve our offering and further support the needs of our customers. Over the past few months, we have been working behind the scenes to facilitate a seamless (pun intended) journey that brings a whole new meaning to ‘wearing your story’.

Joining forces with Araminta Campbell we are offering the ultimate bespoke tailoring experience, providing clients with the unique opportunity to wear their own story, quite literally.

From an initial design consultation with Araminta herself, this partnership sees the story of our clients being captured, and transformed, into an exquisite tweed or tartan design before it is then mill woven in Scottish artisan mills, and finally skilfully transformed, on a bespoke tailoring basis, by the most prolific bespoke tailors in Scotland…us

Vixy Rae from Stewart Christie said “We are thrilled at Stewart Christie & Co to be working with such an innovative and creative team; with Araminta Campbell’s textile designs and our tailoring, we really have opened up a world of new possibilities for our respective clients”

Providing clients with a full 360 journey, and managing the entire process for our clients, this service begins and ends with the finest craftsmanship

Araminta explains “nowhere in the world makes tweeds and tartans like Scotland, being part of this rich textile heritage allows us to celebrate centuries of expertise. We are thrilled to be working with Stewart Christie to provide clients with such a unique offering.”

Offering a travelling service across Scotland, this service caters for all and provides clients with truly bespoke attire

Nothing works together better than whisky and tweed, or rather a fine single malt and our bespoke tailoring. Both require time and knowledge to achieve complete perfection, along with an appreciation for the passion and the craftsmanship.

— The Art of Tweed — Tweed is one of Scotland's great gifts to the world. Woven into every strand of this most authentic and rugged of cloths is an extraordinary heritage of innovation and creativity. The Art of Tweed explores the landscapes, textures and patterns of this glorious fabric. From the rolling hills of Scotland's country estates to the rhythmic clatter of looms in our last-surviving mills. From artisan weavers on the Isle of Harris to the high fashion of international catwalks and urban designers reimagining tweed for the streets. Here is a story of romance, nostalgia, sustainability and style - of an effortlessly versatile cloth and its unique place in our lives. Whether fashioned into a flat cap or tailored into a cape, the story of tweed is a story to be shared. Having explored Scotland's boldest fabric in The Secret Life of Tartan, Vixy shares here her love of tweed, mixing her streetstyle background with traditional techniques to give a cutting-edge twist to old ways. Tweed has had its share of ups and downs, but remains steadfast as the countryside's cloth of choice hard-working, purposeful and with an understated style of its own.

We now have a tweed treasure trove, of stunning swatches from the talented, Andrea and Roger Holden, the pedal-powered weavers of Skye. They have a beautifully organised loom shed and an abundance of exquisite yarns, in both tweed and blankets. It was a joy to meet them and see them at work. From their pedals to our shears, we look forward to creating more garments for you all.
